Jesus is the best known personality on the face of the earth. He is the dominant figure of the last 20 centuries. Yet many have not understood who He really is. The message of Christianity holds essential the need to know and believe in Jesus in order to have life undiminished and unending as God intended us to possess. Who is this man? He might not be who you think He is. He is a man who will not go away. He launched a revolution of human worth. He is more than a teacher. He radically changed the lives of those who followed Him in generations past. He is still changing lives today. He has changed the course of history and determines its outcome from this time and forever. Our destiny hinges on how we answer one simple question. Who is this Man? To find the answer we will search the writings of the Scriptures and collect the evidences we find in the events and activities of human life throughout history
Jesus’ impact on our world is highly unlikely, widely inescapable, largely unknown, and decidedly double-edged. It is unlikely in light of the severe limitations of his earthly life; it is inescapable because of the range of impact; it is unknown because history doesn’t connect dots; and it is doubled-edged because his followers have wreaked so much havoc, often in his name. He is history’s most familiar figure, yet he is the man no one knows. His impact on the world is immense and non-accidental. From the Dark Ages to Post-Modernity he is the Man who won’t go away. And yet . . .you can miss him in historical lists for many reasons, maybe the most obvious being the way he lived his life. He did not loudly and demonstrably defend his movement in the spirit of a rising political or military leader. He did not lay out a case that history would judge his brand of belief superior in all future books. His life and teaching simply drew people to follow him. He made history by starting in a humble place, in a spirit of love and acceptance, and allowing each person space to respond. His vision of life continues to haunt and challenge humanity. His influence has swept over history bringing inspiration to what has happened in art, science, government, medicine, and education; he has taught humans about dignity, compassion, forgiveness, and hope.
Jesus came into the world so that you may know God. To know Jesus is to believe in Him. To believe in Him is to receive Him. To receive Him is to enter into life as God intended. This is a fullness of life that experiences God’s fatherly care, is empowered by God’s creative, faith-igniting, life-infusing Holy Spirit. Who is this Man…for you? The call is to make a confession of faith and to live life in the grace and truth of Jesus and with hope and faith that comes in knowing Jesus.
