God’s grace in a blended family shows up in many ways—fostering forgiveness, encouraging communication, and building unity.

Blending Isn’t Instant

I remember five years ago, when our family “blended” into one home. We were all trying to find our roles and learn patience with one another in this uncharted territory— not to mention being locked down during COVID! Shortly after, we took our family to the next level and welcomed a new baby into our home, someone who instantly became part of each of us.

It was a lot all at once. At times, it felt overwhelming—like we might lose sight of the path forward. Not only were we caring for a newborn baby but also trying to establish house rules and learning how to cohesively move as one unit.

I had a vision in my mind that we’d just “blend” right away. I never looked at one child differently than the other, so I opened my heart with faith. But I quickly realized it doesn’t happen overnight. I had to give grace for the bumps, the learning curves, and various situations that can occur with step-families and shared homes.

Faith That Holds Us Together

My husband was already a member of Shepherd’s Gate Church, and I quickly realized attending together as a family would be a powerful way to connect. At church, we felt the love and acceptance that only God can provide.

My faith and worship have become an invisible arm—guiding me through parenting, unconditional love, and giving perspective in a world where things are messy and family doesn’t always match the “standard picture.”

Grace for the Journey

I’ve come to understand that grace, love, and faith must be strong and consistent as we deepen our bonds. These key words have led me through arguments, sadness, and frustrations—as well as joyful moments and treasured memories.

To all the moms out there: when you’re at the end of your rope and feel like you don’t have another ounce of energy left, remember this—God’s got you! He blessed you with the family you are in and promises to walk alongside you every step of the way. (Deuteronomy 31:8)

Family isn’t always light-hearted or easy, but that’s real life—and it’s what we teach our kids. God will always love you and be there for you. And sometimes, our children become our teachers—reminding us to notice the little things and celebrate the joy that life and family can offer every day!

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank You for the gift of mothers and the love they so generously give. Please bless them with strength, patience, and wisdom as they nurture and guide their families. Grant them the peace and joy they deserve and let them feel appreciated and cherished every day.

May Your grace and love surround them, and may they find comfort and support in Your presence. Help them to lead with compassion and to impart kindness and understanding to those around them.

Amen.
